"Are you going to officially become a wife just to claim the largest bedroom?" Riley asked her with a smile. She thought that was pretty funny.
Jada shrugged again before answering. "I assume there are other benefits as well."
"I can't believe this," Alexa said. She was so delighted to have her new home and now someone was trying to claim the bedroom that she thought was rightfully hers.
"I thought," Bianka interrupted with her hand in the air. "I thought that the master bedroom was Mason's, and the wives took turns or something. Am I wrong?"
"That's sort of how we did it toward the end at the last place," Riley confirmed. "But today is new day. Mason, how do you want to handle this?"
"Ummm, I don't know," I answered as I leaned against the kitchen counter. Picking out bedrooms was not a priority for me, but I could see that it was important to the women. That's when I realized that I didn't really need one of my own. "There are four bedrooms and five women. I don't mind moving from one to the next each night. So, you all can decide who gets what. But two of you will have to share."
They were used to sharing. We had more women per bed in our last place. I knew that both Riley and Stella would be fine with not having their own bedroom. They were both so unselfish. In my mind that was the obvious solution.
Then Bianka surprised us all by saying, "I don't mind bunking with Alexa."
Alexa feigned shock with a big smile. She had to already know that the super sexy lesbian was about to say that. But it didn’t eliminate her embarrassment.
"What is going on with you two?" I asked. I was conjuring up visions of the two of them having a sordid affair. Aggressively eating each other out in a sixty-nine position or scissoring with their vagina lips rubbing together. My exposure to lesbian porn was very limited. I wasn’t sure whether to be angry or aroused if that was the case.
"Nothing," Bianka replied defensively. "We are just friends, of course."
"For now," Jada mumbled, always instigating.
"Since we are sharing a bed," Bianka continued. "We get the master suite."
"Oh, that's your play," Jada responded. Her offer to marry me, though strictly in jest, got trumped by two women willing to share a bed. If it had been Riley and Stella, they wouldn’t have even asked for the master suite.
"You were going to get married just to get the big bedroom," Stella jumped in, very uncharacteristically. “You can’t complain when someone beats you at your own game.”
"And I haven't agreed to sharing a bed yet," Alexa said with an apologetic smile toward Bianka.
"Hold up!" Riley raised her voice to get everyone's attention. "We can't figure this out by arguing among ourselves. And it is clear to me that the issue needs to be settled before we move on to more important matters. How many of us are fine with sharing a bed with another woman?"
Riley and Stella raised their hands immediately. Bianka followed but said that it would depend on the woman that she would be sharing with. I knew she had bedded with Stella before. They were close friends from way back.
"I have a suggestion then," Riley said. "Mason gets the master bedroom again so he can have any of us wives or lovers visit without disrupting the other women. That way neither Stella nor I will be tossed out of our own bed to make room for him. We'll share a bedroom, Bianka starts sleeping with Alexa, and Jada gets her own room for now."
"What?" Alexa asked. "Why?" But there were no other words to say. As usual, Riley had all the answers when it came to organization and logistics.
"We'll be having someone stand guard at night again," Bianka said. "That will be me mostly, so Alexa will have the bed to herself much of the time."
"And someone will be sleeping with Mason," Stella added.
"So, when it is Jada's turn," Alexa then said humorously. "I mean after the ceremony and all. Her bed will be empty."
"Both beds would probably be empty that night," Bianka snickered. "Jada likes to get fucked in a barn or up against a tree..."
"Hey now!" Jada feigned offense.
"Okay, okay!" I interrupted. "That sounds like a good plan to me. We can always adjust later. Alexa is the first wife, so she picks her room first."
"Motherfucker," Jada mumbled, but she didn't look seriously surprised.
"Riley is the second, but neither her or Stella give a shit about these things, so Jada gets second pick."
No one seemed terribly unhappy with the ruling that Riley and I laid out. There were no serious verbal complaints at least. So, each in turn announced which room they would be taking. I got the impression that the whole argument was fake, merely an opportunity to laugh and accuse each other in the name of humor. A way to break in the new house.
"I have one last question regarding the sleeping arrangements," Riley said. "Whose turn is it to sleep with Mason tonight?"
Stella spoke up first, saying, "Well, I kind of took my turn last night, so it shouldn't be me."
Everyone looked at her in shock except Alexa. Her gift had already clued her in. Jokingly, she gestured for Stella to wipe something off her lips. She was of course referring to my first blast of semen. But how could she know that detail?
CHAPTER SIX:
Between the woods and the fence, the backyard was quite secluded. We could spend a lot of time back there without drawing the attention of anyone passing along the street as long as we weren't too loud. There was nice outdoor furniture split between the two sections of patio. Two rattan style sofas with matching tables were parked on the smooth stone near the house. A large table with six comfortable swivel chairs and an umbrella were situated on the section that protruded into the yard. A nice stone walkway connected them, but it had gotten a bit slimy in places from neglect.
The grass was rougher looking than most yards. The family that lived there must have planted one of those fine species that required a lot of care. Without regular watering and mowing, the grass had shriveled up to form a dry sponge effect on the ground. Other sections had tall weeds that Stella was more than happy to remove. To her yard work was like a gift.
The garden had been planted on the far left near the fence and was approximately ten feet by twenty feet. Stella mapped out an extended section that she would like to claim for our new farm and sought my approval. The area she wanted to plow would be more like fifty by eighty feet, but it would grow to that size in gradual stages. I just had to commit to not using the land she wanted for other activities.
There was plenty of room left over for recreational purposes. That included two cornhole boards with the Georgetown University logo painted on them. The bags for tossing were like new. The boards just needed wiped off. Stella quickly did that as well when she saw me staring at them. With her or Riley nearby I often felt like an inspector critiquing their work.
"You don't have to follow me around and wipe down everything that I'm looking at," I told her.
"I know," she replied as she continued to clean anyway. "But I know you would enjoy playing this game. Providing nice stuff for you is not just my job, it is my pleasure."
"Well, thank you," I told her. She was really an unselfish dedicated old-fashioned wife. She also did a lot for our group which farming was a major share. She didn't get picked on much since Camilla left the scene. "I'm sorry about Alexa joking with you about the, uh, you know, what you did for me last night."
"Oh, that's no big deal. She didn't mean any harm," Stella sounded genuine. "She just took advantage of an opportunity that I gave her."
"I didn't know that she was able to pick up on details of our activity like that," I told her. Then I gestured like I was wiping my mouth, just as Alexa had done.
"Oh, I don't that she knew about that part," Stella chuckled. It was good to see her getting more comfortable with sexual conversation. "She just assumed that I gave you a blowjob because of how I am."
"Unselfish, you mean."
"Yeah, something like that."
"Next time I want to take care of you that way," I told her as I kneeled down beside
her. "You deserve that and more."
Stella blushed and turned away without saying another word. I gave her a sideways hug, but she refused to face me due to her embarrassment. Eventually I decided not to make her anymore uncomfortable.
Riley and Alexa were cleaning the kitchen thoroughly, which included emptying the refrigerator. We opened all the doors and windows on the back end of the house to help clear the stench. It was surprising how accustomed we had become with bad odors. Trash, rotting flesh, and the like. I used to wonder how people could stand living beside a cow pasture or a stinky factory. Now I completely understood.
We had enough bottled water to last a few days, and a significant amount of food for longer than that. There was no need to go scavenging anytime soon. If we could manage to retrieve the water filters and barrels from our old place as planned, we'd be in good shape for a while. We should probably try to salvage some of the fishing gear as well. The same river that we already knew was just a short hike through the woods.
I assisted Jada and Bianka with blocking all windows that could reveal our existence to passersby. The idea was to use more tape than nails to keep the noise down. The area had not been cleared of threats yet. We continued to watch the neighborhood from inside the house for any signs of human activity but didn't see anything so far except stray animals.
It had been a while since I felt like I could really relax. It was still early in our new situation, but I could feel my body loosening up. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I could actually be more comfortable here than the last place. If all went well.
I was responsible for so many people back in our growing colony. My friends, skanks that came our way for refuge, the reborn women that reacted favorably to the vaccine, and military personnel that we had absorbed into our fold. Here there was just the six of us. And all of these wonderful women were fully capable of taking care of themselves.
In someone ways it felt like I had been fired from a job. I failed so the responsibility was taken from me. But in other ways it was more like retiring from stressful employment instead. Though I had not chosen to have this much casual time, it was beginning to feel like a blessing.
I returned to the main living area to find Riley and Alexa still hard at work. It was nice to see smiles on their faces as they went about their cleaning tasks. The two of them were certainly excited about claiming this house. I needed to get into the utility room soon and check on that inverter. I was hoping that my experience with the previous two homes, plus John and Corinne's place next door to one of them, that I'd be able to get it working without too much trouble.
I was just about to sit on a bar stool at the kitchen island for a five-minute break before heading into the basement when Stella came in the backdoor looking concerned. I instantly regretted leaving her out there alone.
"Mason," she called to me. "I think there is something outside the fence on this side of the house." She gestured toward the driveway side.
"Person or animal?"
"I'm not sure."
"Neither," Alexa said as she stared upward at nothing. "Or both, however you want to look at it. I'm surprised I didn't notice them before now. Their brain activity is so low. It's zombies. Three of them, I think."
I quietly slipped out the back door with Stella at my side. Alexa went to alert Jada and Bianka to the situation. Hopefully, Jada would be able to tame them and send them on their way as Bianka watched out front for more trouble.
I heard growling, coughing and scratching along a section of fence just beyond the gate. The closer that I got the more agitated they appeared to get. They probably smelled Stella working in the backyard, or however they were attracted to a food source. Or maybe they smelled a trail of human scent around the gate itself from our recent entry.
Jada came out the back door of our new house in a hurry. The three zombies noticed and increased their groans and grunts. It was probably loud enough to be heard from the street. Anyone knowing the source of the noise wouldn’t likely want to come toward it, though.
"Hey girls," Jada said to them like they were her pet dogs. "It's okay. It is just us, the good guys." The stink from their decaying bodies was just catching up to us where Stella and I stood twenty feet from the fence. I couldn't see them, but it was easy to imagine their appearance. I had already looked upon my share of this new batch of stinkies. Missing flesh, infected sores all dried up from a lack of fresh blood flow, glassed over eyeballs.
They were gradually starting to calm down. I watched silently as Jada continued to tame them with her unique skill. "We don't have any food for you here. I'm sorry about that. I would like for you to go back to the street and find another house. Can you do that for me?"
The three of them grunted at each other for a short time like it was their language. Maybe it was. There was no more scratching or growling. But it didn't sound like they were leaving just yet. They were debating whether to follow Jada’s instructions, it seemed. Was her ability fading?
"Back to the street," Jada told them more forcibly. "Find food somewhere else. I don’t want to have to tell you again."
We listened intently as they appeared to be discussing their options while still moping around on the other side of the tall privacy fence. Eventually they did just as Jada ordered. We could hear them getting farther away as they moved toward the street. Then I heard someone scream.
"Shit!" a man yelled. "Zombies! Let's go!"
There was a lot more growling then as the women with wretched gray flesh moved rapidly toward them. I couldn't resist taking a peek through the fence boards. With their attention on the zombies the men wouldn't likely notice me. Unfortunately, I couldn't see far enough due to the trees and bushes that were keeping our home concealed. I began to wonder if it was the same two men that we saw yesterday. If they were walking on the street again, I would have to assume they were some kind of patrol that covered both sections of this neighborhood. That would be bad news.
I hurried back into the house with Jada to peek out the front windows. Stella and the others followed. By the time we got there the men and the zombies had already moved out of view. But Bianka got a good look before they were gone.
"There were two men strolling down the street like they didn't have a care in the world. Neither appeared to be armed," she told us. "They spotted the zombies and ran off down the middle of the road, making no attempt to find shelter among the houses."
"I think I know what that means," I said to all five women gathered with us in the front bedroom.
"Some group already controls this territory," Jada completed my thought.
We all glanced at each other in the very dim light that was coming through where Bianka had pulled away a strip of cardboard.
"What does that mean for us?" Stella asked, sounding a bit deflated.
"I don't know for sure," I told her. "We should probably do our best to stay hidden and avoid them. If they do make contact, we'll do our best to get along. Coexist, like we tried to do with the Coalition. Our clan is not near as impressive or intimidating as it once was, but that might just help us avoid detection in the first place."
We continued working quietly to secure our new home. The fenced in backyard gave us some options. With no plumbing available in any houses these days, we still had to relieve ourselves outside. Unlike our last home, this one did not come with port-a-potties. The family that lived there left it pretty much untouched by the apocalypse when they fled. But they didn't prepare for it in any way shape or form.
I found some poles to use for holding up a dirty green tarp for privacy. Then I built a short wooden frame that could be sat over a hole in the ground. On top of it I taped the toilet seat that I had removed from the guest bathroom. It would have to do for a while. The key was to have plenty of toilet paper, sanitizing supplies, and air freshener. Stella would search the neighborhood for fragrant plants that would thrive in the soil by our makeshift outhouse to help cover the scent. The yard was large
enough that we could do our business in the far-right corner without infringing on our senses too much. Being used to a stinky world and smelling your own shit constantly were two different scenarios.
I finally made it into the basement to check the solar power inverter, hoping that all I would need to do was flip a switch. I paused at the bottom of the steps to view the large room that contained a family room, pool table and a bar. I could see myself relaxing down there a lot in the near future. We might even be able to play some music at a low volume to provide a party atmosphere occasionally. There was a stand in the corner with a laptop computer, an audio control board, and two large speakers like a DJ set up.
Unfortunately, flipping the inverter switch did not work. I remembered how the on-screen menu system worked at a previous house, but this unit was a different model. It didn't even look like it was made by the same company. And the screen was completely blank.
